There are lots of reasons, of
course, why you would want to understand email marketing and it's importance . If you're new digital
marketing, or if you have just a little bit knowledge of email marketing, but you might
be missing a few pieces here and there, this is the blog for you. So read to
the end, because we're going to do brief overview of what email marketing
is and the best way to implement it to our business.
Email marketing is a tool that
helps us to do two things as below
- It provides values to readers or receivers in form of content
- Shows direction to the customer when they stuck
When we're talking about digital marketing, we use it in these two primary ways . Email marketing is the most digital marketing channel. I, personally, love Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I am doing SEO personally for my blog and my websites, but as your blog or business website grows more and more, I realize that email marketing is the most important and usually the most useful digital marketing channel.
There's a number of reasons why email
marketing is incredibly important.
- Not everyone is on Facebook
- Not everyone is on Snapchat
- Not everyone is on instagram
- Not everyone is on pintrest
- Not everyone is on LinkedIn
There's a number of different social channels out there to promote your blog or website. But everyone has an email address, and that's why email marketing is much important.
Your list of email, you as a digital marketer, or you as an individual entrepreneur, or as a business person, as you increase number of emails in your
email list, that email list can go with you. It is a portable asset.
- Many digital marketing channels that change very often or they shuts down
- The value of social channel may be very high of zero in upcoming time
Ranking number one on Alta Vista
in 1997 was fantastic and it was best for our business at that time, but now a days Alta Vista doesn't even exists.
Different social networks can
expand and contrast as time passes according to their likes and dislikes by users. It can often change a lot. But email generally doesn't change. It is not a social channel. It is a web protocol, and I want to
tell about this and what is the difference between them.
Web applications like Facebook, Google, Yelp, Instagram, Snapchat, and MySpace and many more are used by millions of people each and every day. And they all of web protocols are always on top searches by any of web browsers.
When we talk about web protocols, we are talking about following
- DNS (Domain Name Service)
- HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol)
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
- IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
- SSL
- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
These are all different types of digital communication platforms, digital communication languages
effectively, that we all use on a day-to-day basis. They're not owned by a private company or a firm. They are standards that we all use
when we use the internet.
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is email. And so when we do email marketing, we are about to use the SMTP protocol. Companies can change their rules according to their benefits, platforms can become unpopular, but protocols don't really changes.
Until people
stop using their email, SMTP protocol, our email list is the best portable asset. The chances are very high that we're probably still going to
have email in 25 or 50 years. That's why it is really very important to build email list and start email marketing.
Let me explain it in detail. There are only three different types of email when
we're talking about email marketing.
- Transactional email
- Content email
- Conversion email
Transactional email
Let’s talk about some examples of a transactional email. This might be things like receipts. For example we buy something from Amazon, you get a transactional email receipt. An order confirmation, forgot password, tickets for support , sign-in or sign-up details, tracking details, unsubscribe email. These are all transactional things. When user is doing something on your blog or website, and we are giving them an update through email.
Content email
Content email is thing like a welcome email. Maybe we just got their email address or they just signed up as a subscriber or customer.
Let say it is a new blog or a new blog post. so the example would be "Hey, everyone, We just posted this new blog post. So check it out." Newsletters, social posts, or social post reminder or blog post. "Hey, go check out this post on blog or website", any content that we create is under content email category.
Conversion email
Any type of promotion, sale,
lead magnets can also be in this group called conversion email. If we are launching a new
product, it means we are upgrading users and we about to offer a discount, when we do an
affiliate marketing or program, anything like that would be is in type of conversion email, generally when money
is changing hands.
I have mentioned three
different types of email. Let's go to some deep. There is three different types of email, but in real only two types means of
distribution, or at least two which we need to focus
- Broadcast email
- Automated email
Broadcast email
We broadcast two types of email
Generally, when we create something absolutely fabulous, and we want to tell our whole audience or subscribers about it. We do a broadcast. Or, if we are doing kind of a festival wishes or a time box promotion, Christmas 2021, or seasonal whatever, simply do that as a broadcast.
Automated email
Based on user actions everything else could be automated. In general, if we want to be automating email based on what the users are doing on our blog or website, This allows you to send out content and messaging that is much more specific and relevant to the users. The only thing we have to do is "Do not blast everything what we have on the subscriber or reader, we have to send only things that they all are interested to read or watch, and based on the actions that they're taking on site."
I just try to provide high level overview and answer the question, "What is email marketing?" So that's it. I hope that was useful. If it was helpful and if you learned something today, go ahead and click subscribe to get even more Digital Marketing Tactics and Tips from us.
